Favourite childhood memory?

I cherish growing up in a country with very distinct seasons, and I still vividly remember the smells, sounds and sensations of nature throughout the year. From swimming in freshwater lakes and foraging for mushrooms, to building snow forts and spotting the very first green sprouts of spring (it would usually be a small yellow flower called tussilago).

Favourite season?

Despite my answer above — definitely summer! Fashion, food, drinks… everything is more fun in the sun. 😎

Favourite sound?

Black cockatoos. They look and sound so beautiful and ethereal, like messengers from both an ancient past and the future.

Favourite object?

A hilarious ceramic toothpick holder shaped like a dragon–tiger that I bought in Japan many years ago. It cracks me up and is quite literally my sole reason for owning toothpicks.

Who inspires you?

My five-year-old daughter Mikan (which means mandarin in Japanese🍊). She has the most amazing, kooky ideas, and I’m forever in awe of her drawings.

What’s the best part about collaborating with Halcyon Nights?

It’s truly a dream collaboration. Halcyon Nights is one of the most exciting kids’ labels out there — the consistent style, quality and creative vision really stand out. I also love that the clothing is not gendered (hard to come by these days) and instead celebrates the power of art and self-expression for all children. It blows my mind to see where Kym and the team have taken my illustrations. If I could wear the pieces myself, I absolutely would!
