Emma Tripolone

Emma is an illustrator from Sydney who currently lives with her little family in Southern Germany. She spends her days cutting and glueing colourful paper shapes to create abstract compositions and cute characters.

Her desk is usually completely covered in tiny paper scraps and she is always loosing stuff underneath the piles! She embraces this chaos and uses an intuitive and playful approach to creating which allows accidents to happen and characters to suddenly appear.

When not creating she enjoys walking in nature and hanging out with her family.

Favourite childhood memory?

My friend and I would hide inside my bedroom closet and recorded our own radio show on my red tape recorder. What I would give to be able to listen to those tapes now!

Favourite season?

Every season has it’s special moments for me, but I particularly look forward to summer, because it’s got the feel of holidays and I love to be able to swim outside.

Favourite sound?

Any Australian birdsong, but particularly Magpies, Butcherbirds, and Rainbow Lorikeets, to me it’s the sound of childhood and home.

Favourite object?

I have a Van Gogh sunflower mug that I purchased in Amsterdam. I always drink coffee from it. Colours, flowers and coffee make me happy and it’s got all in one!

Who inspires you?

My kids, animals, nature, and artists such as Eric Carle, Květa Pacovská, Ken Done and Paul Klee.

What’s the best part about collaborating with Halcyon Nights?

They give total trust and support to their collaborating artists. It was a project that felt fun and playful, a complete joy to work on! Also they sign their emails with kisses, I mean how cute is that!?
